Piney Woods Picnic Preview

One time, downtown Hattiesburg bar darling Ben Shemper (creator of Benny’s Boom Boom Room/Dollar Box) had a novel idea: Let’s have a massive party in the woods with music to celebrate Hattiesburg and Southern music.

Much beer and a few years later, the Piney Woods Picnic was born with its inaugural event held in 2014. Located in Pep’s Point on Highway 49 in the Hattiesburg area, this festival serves two purposes: to party & to preserve the Bouie/Leaf River by raising awareness of this awesome natural resource. This year’s fest, a 2-day event with camping available, features a badass lineup covering the gamut from soulful to downright sexy. Miss it, and rest assured, you’ll never paint with all the colors of the wind.
Don’t miss out on:

Strung Like a Horse
Is it a circus or is it a revival? This Chattanooga-based gypsy punk grass band and wild frontman Clay Maselle may have the crowd speaking in tongues at show’s end.

Space Capone
Though they hail from Nashville, these gentleman are refreshingly un-countrified. Smooth 70s disco funk with full instrumentation is just the fairy godmother to transform your dingy cargo pants into sparkly booty shorts without warning.

Don’t kid yourself. Piney Woods Picnic has a full-figured lineup and we can’t do everything for you. Head to the website and study up.
