As of today, DIME has received official word that Bayfest, a Mobile-area staple originally set for Oct. 2-4, will not take place this year.

In a release from the organizers: “For 20 years, BayFest has brought a variety of music to the streets of downtown Mobile. BayFest Board of Directors has seen a decline in support and interest and will discontinue the festival and additional events including the BayFest 5K & Fun Run. BayFest would like to thank all of our sponsors and patrons over the years that have helped in the growth to become Alabama’s largest music festival! Tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase.”

DIME apologizes to those participants in our recent Facebook contest who would have won passes to the event. We are disheartened to see yet another festival close its doors indefinitely. We encourage our readers to attend local events and show full support of those festivals by attending, volunteering for and promoting those that do take place across the South to help prevent future festival closures.
